I fear
forgetting.
To most, this is simply a photo of four people that were either a) clearly not ready for the photo to be taken or b) they are just hopeless when it comes to being photographed. For me this photo is not just the capturing of a moment in time, but quite a bit more than that.
I remember my first camera. It was my father's camera originally, he gave it to me when he bought himself a new one. It took film, which I went with my parents to purchase and then later return to the store to be developed.
I was always aware of how many photos I had left on my film and was incredibly aware of the opportunities that passed me as I saved my remaining film for the moments that would be the most creative or mean the most. Today I find myself skimming through hundreds of photos, each of which capture a moment, ones that remind me of times in my life, significant or not.
I take hundreds of photos because I enjoy taking hundreds of photos and because I can. The technology of digital photography allows me to take hundreds of photos.
I skim through them, sorting them by time of year, month, and event, looking out to find the special ones; the photos that make me feel happiness.
A photo that automatically brings a smirk to your face, one that brings back the little details, they make you want to share the story that they tell, that moment, with someone, to reminise aloud and relive what is left of that special memory.
These captured moments are ones that I savoir as memories.
Memories that I cherish so deeply and fear forgetting and ever having to live without.
